The "ingénieurs d'études" are recruited by external and internal concours (competitions), by list of aptitude or detachment. The concours are organized by branch of professional activity (BAP) and standard jobs. They consist of a selection based on the applications and a job interview in front of a scientific committee
The diplomas required for applying go from a Bachelor degree level to a Master level. French and foreign candidates holding a French diploma of the same level issued by a public or private educational institution or a foreign diploma (including those from the European Community or from another State part to the agreement on the European Economic Area) may apply for equivalence.
No nationality requirement is required for access to the body of Ingénieurs d'études.
Les ingénieurs d'études sont recrutés par concours externes et internes, par liste d'aptitude ou détachement. Les concours d'accès s'organisent par branche d'activité professionnelle (BAP) et emploi type. Ils sont constitués d’une sélection sur dossier et d’une audition devant un jury.
Les diplômes requis pour candidater vont du niveau licence au Master. Les candidats français et étrangers titulaires d’un diplôme français de même niveau délivré par un établissement d’enseignement public ou privé ou d’un diplôme étranger (y compris ceux de la Communauté européenne ou d’un autre État partie à l’accord sur l’espace économique européen) peuvent présenter une demande d’équivalence.
Aucune condition de nationalité n’est exigée pour l’accès aux corps d’ingénieur d’études.

The body of the ingénieurs d'études belongs tp the group of "engineers and technical research and training staff" of the Ministry of Higher Education.
- Status: the "ingénieurs d'études" are public servants assigned to a university or to a research laboratory. This position exists also with a fixed-term contract.
- Institutions concerned: higher education institutions and research institutions (such as CNRS).
- Duties: The "ingénieurs d'études" contribute to the elaboration and development of the techniques and methods used in the establishments in which they work, as well as to the organization of their implementation and the improvement of their results. They contribute to the fulfillment of teaching assignments. They may perform administrative functions and assume supervisory responsibilities, mainly with respect to technical staff.
- Grades: Second class (deuxième classe or IE2), First class (première classe or IE1), Senior (hors classe or IEHC) at Universities and Classe normale and Hors Classe at CNRS.
- Salary range:
- Gross monthly salary - Second class (IE2) : de 1 713,20 € à 2 866,15 €
- Gross monthly salary - First class (IE1) : de 2 569,81 € à 3 116,18 €
- Gross monthly salary - Senior (IEHC) : de 3 222,68 € à 3 625,51 €
- Evaluation: an annual interview is organized between the agent and his line manager.
The corps des ingénieurs d'étude appartient à l'ensemble des "ingénieurs et les personnels techniques de recherche et de formation" du ministère chargé de l'enseignement supérieur.
- Statut : les ingénieurs d'études sont des fonctionnaires titulaires affectés dans une université ou affectés dans un laboratoire de recherche. Ce poste existe aussi en contrat à durée déterminée.
- Institutions concernées : les établissements d'enseignement supérieur et les institutions de recherche (comme le CNRS)
- Obligations : Les ingénieurs d'études contribuent à l'élaboration, à la mise au point et au développement des techniques et méthodes mises en oeuvre dans les établissements où ils exercent, ainsi qu'à l'organisation de leur application et à l'amélioration de leurs résultats. Ils concourent à l'accomplissement des missions d'enseignement. Ils peuvent exercer des fonctions d'administration et assumer des responsabilités d'encadrement, principalement à l'égard des personnels techniques.

- Salaire mensuel brut d'un Ingénieur Hors classe (IEHC): de 3 222,68 € à 3 625,51 €
- Evaluation: un entretien annuel est organisé entre l’agent et son responsable hiérarchique.
