The Doctorat d'État (literally 'State Doctorate') was considered as a second doctorate, higher level compared to the doctorat de troisième cycle (literally 'postgraduate doctorate') which it followed to. It has been replaced by the Habilitation à diriger des recherches since 1984.
Le Doctorat d'État était considéré comme un second doctorat, de niveau supérieur, par rapport au doctorat de troisième cycle auquel il faisait suite. Il est remplacé par l'Habilitation à diriger des recherches depuis 1984.
